ABOUT OUR SERVICE

We are an activity group which promotes friendship and enjoys a home-made lunch and afternoon tea.

Aims

  • We aim to help people maintain existing skills and develop new ones by providing a range of opportunities and experiences in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
  • To provide a social opportunity for those feeling alone and in need of friendship.
  • To enhance everything we do by providing a hot homemade lunch at 1.00 and afternoon tea with homemade cake at 2.15 for a nominal charge.

Wellbeing target

We plan to enhance physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills through holistic experiences which we deliver in a friendly and caring environment.

Who do we provide our service for?

Local adults who have something “missing” or long term challenges in their lives. People who want to leave their issues behind them for a few hours, to engage in activities which are interesting in an atmosphere which make them feel good. By promoting a community spirit where people can be themselves we shall encourage them to make friends and have fun. We plan to gently challenge abilities in an agreeable manner, enabling existing skills to be maintained and new ones learnt, at a pace to suit each individual and their current abilities.

We offer basic literacy and numeracy tutoring to support those studying for Functional Skills at level 1 and 2, so improving their employment opportunities or simply challenging their brains!

Volunteers

We are staffed entirely by local volunteers who are from our villages and town. They represent a wide range of skills and life experiences which make us a skilled and diverse team. We have been trained in necessary national qualifications and all volunteers have enhanced DBS checks (Disclosure and Barring Service). We are professional amateurs from different walks of life with different levels of skill in a range of areas.

We need more volunteers, please see our recruitment page for further details or come along on a Wednesday afternoon and visit us.
